Drin vs Loops.

Loops built a lovely, product-led email tool for SaaS teams. Drin comes at the same job from the developer's side: an API-first platform that bills for the mail you actually send — not the size of your audience — and does inbound and agents too.

Off to one side, faded, another room where a turnstile counts each contact's head passing through — a per-contact toll — and every outgoing letter carries a small 'Powered by Loops' footer tag.
// the short version

Loops charges by contacts; Drin charges by volume — and does the developer half too.

Loops is genuinely nice to use. If a marketer owns your lifecycle email and wants a clean UI with product-triggered flows, it's a fair choice.

But per-contact pricing punishes a growing list even when you rarely mail it, there's a 'Powered by Loops' footer on free, and it isn't built for inbound or agents. Drin bills by volume with unlimited contacts on the marketing lane, never brands your mail, and adds real inboxes plus an MCP surface — starting at $3/mo versus $49.

#02 — Where Drin wins

The three that decide it.

DRIN × LOOPS · WHERE DRIN WINSSHEET OF 3
01.1Pay for sends, not size

A 200k-person list you email monthly costs Loops a fortune. Drin bills the volume you send, with unlimited contacts on the marketing lane.

01.2Your name, not theirs

No 'Powered by' footer, ever — even on the smallest plan. Your mail looks like yours from day one.

01.3Inbound and agents

Loops sends; Drin also receives. Real inboxes parsed to JSON, plus an MCP server so agents can run the whole loop.

#03 — Pricing, compared

What you actually pay.

The models differ: Loops charges by how many contacts you store; Drin charges by how much mail you send. Big list, occasional sends → Drin is far cheaper. Small list, constant sends → compare directly.

#04 — Credit where it's due

What Loops does well

Loops is one of the most pleasant marketing-email tools for SaaS — the interface is clean, the product-triggered flows are well designed, and it avoids the bloat of legacy tools like Mailchimp or HubSpot. If a non-technical marketer owns lifecycle email and lives in a UI, they'll enjoy it. Drin is a different shape: developer-first, API-and-agent-native, and priced by volume — better when engineering owns email and the list is large relative to how often you mail it.

#05 — Switching

Moving over is a weekend.

  1. 1

    Import contacts + topics

Bring your lists and consent state. Drin models per-topic consent with one-click unsubscribe and a hosted preference page.

  2. 2

    Rebuild flows as automations

Trigger on product events or an inbound reply. Same lifecycle logic, now next to your transactional sending.

  3. 3

    Add the developer half

Wire transactional sends, inbound webhooks and an MCP key — the parts Loops never covered.

#06 — Questions

Asked about Loops.

I have a big list I rarely email — who's cheaper?+

Drin, usually by a lot. Loops bills by stored contacts; Drin bills by messages sent. A large, low-frequency list is exactly where per-contact pricing hurts.

Does Drin have a marketing UI?+

Yes — campaigns, multi-step automations, lists/segments and a hosted preference page. It's developer-first, but marketers can run it from the dashboard.

Will my emails say 'Powered by Drin'?+

Never. There's no brand footer on any plan, including the sandbox.

Can Drin trigger flows from inbound mail?+

Yes. An inbound reply can start an automation — a winback pause, a handoff, a follow-up. Loops has no inbound.
